Hawks Shut Down Covenant On Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Entering tonight's matchup following a tough loss on the road at Belhaven, Huntingdon women's basketball claimed a key CCS victory over the Scots of Covenant College for Senior Day, 66-47.

At the conclusion of the game, Huntingdon recognized the program's six seniors for their contributions both on and off the court throughout their time as a Hawk. This year's seniors were Kinstin Davis, Lauryn Lyn, Payton Corbett, Cassidy Campbell, Kennedy-Ryan Jackson, and Briana McGruder.

First Quarter

  • Huntingdon started the game on an offensive tear, seeing baskets from five different Hawks as they opened up an 11-0 lead by the 5 minute mark
  • A 6-0 Covenant run cut into Huntingdon's lead, but consecutive triples from Makayla Ford and Kinstin Davis brought the Hawks lead back to double-digits, 17-6 with 2:44 to go
  • Cassidy Campbell sank her first three pointer of the game at the 1:13 mark to bring Huntingdon's lead to 20-9. A basket for Covenant on the other end brought the score to 20-11 entering the second quarter

Second Quarter

  • Neither team could find a rhythm offensively as the second quarter got underway, as the score remained 20-11 by the 7:25 mark
  • A 5-2 Covenant run put the Scot down just six, 22-16 with 6 minutes to go until halftime
  • Back-to-back layups from Kinstin Davis pushed the Hawks lead back to 26-16 by the 4:48 mark
  • An 8-0 Huntingdon run grew the Hawks lead to 34-18 before Cassidy Campbell's second three-pointer of the night brought the score to 37-20. Covenant put in a layup inside the final 20 seconds to bring the Hawks halftime lead to 37-22

Third Quarter

  • Similar to the first half, Huntingdon opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 44-22 by the 6:39 mark
  • The Scots responded with a 9-2 run of their own to bring the score to 46-31 with 4:20 left in the quarter
  • Neither team scored in the final 2:49 of the period, bringing Huntingdon's lead to 51-36 entering the fourth quarter

Fourth Quarter

  • The cold streak for both teams continued well into the final quarter, as Deshauna Foote broke the ice with a triple at the 6:27 mark to bring Huntingdon's lead to 54-36
  • Briana McGruder's layup just a minute later put the Hawks up 20, 58-38
  • As the end of the game drew near, the Hawks continued to control the pace of the game, maintaining their lead to walk away with a 66-47 victory

The Hawks return to action on February 18th at home against Agnes Scott. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM CT.
