Hawks Draw With MUW At Home

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Returning to the Samford Soccer Complex for the first time since their season opener, Huntingdon Women's Soccer(1-2-1 overall) took to the field for a battle with the Owls of The Mississippi University for Women(0-4-1 overall). Both offenses came out of the gates swinging, which carried into the early stages of the second half, but a late stalemate resulted in a 2-2 draw between the two squads.

How it happened

As mentioned before, each of the team's were able to capture offensive momentum early. MUW struck first with an unassisted goal at the 6:05 mark, but the Hawks answered just one minute later, as Shaylinn McFarland slid one past the Owl's keeper to even things at 1-1 inside the opening 10 minutes. CCS Rookie of the Week Greer Kemmett followed McFarland's goal quickly with one of her own, sending one through the back of the net as the Hawks captured a 2-1 lead by the 17:39 mark. As the half wore on, each squad saw attempts on the goal, but to no avail, keeping Huntingdon in front 2-1 headed into the halftime break.

As the second half got underway, the Hawks continued to fire away, taking seven shots in the opening 15 minutes, but none hit the mark. MUW capitalized, flipping the field and cashing in at the 63 minute mark to even things up coming down the stretch. Huntingdon continued to attack offensively, firing off six more shots as the match drew near, but they couldn't get past the Owl's keeper, bringing the game to a close with a 2-2 draw.

The Hawks return to action on Sunday, September 14th, as they travel to face the Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels. Gametime is set for 2:30 PM CT.
