Huntingdon football vacates 2012 win against Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon athletic director and head football coach Mike Turk announced on Friday that the football team has vacated its 2012 win against Maryville College.

A Huntingdon player, who had not yet been certified as eligible, played two snaps in the first game of the 2012 season. As a result, Huntingdon's official record for 2012 is now 5-3 instead of 6-3.

"Although the player only played two snaps during the game and was later certified as eligible, I firmly believe that we did the right thing and reported the situation to the NCAA," Turk said. "As the head football coach, I take full responsibility for what transpired. I do not believe that in any way the integrity of our institution has been compromised, rather that our integrity has been strengthened.

"I've been in this business a long time, and I would never knowingly play an ineligible player. The incident was unfortunate, and we have taken steps to assure that it will not happen again."

Huntingdon opens the season at Mississippi College on Sept. 14.
