Hawks Fall At Home To #8 Emory
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Off the heels of their loss at Berry yesterday afternoon, Huntingdon Women's Basketball couldn't get things going at home today, falling to the #8 Emory University Eagles 102-55.
First Quarter
Boosted by a hot start, Emory distanced themselves quickly with a 29-11 opening quarter score. Making the most of the Hawks five turnovers in the opening minutes, the Eagles jumped out to an 15-1 lead by the 5:51 mark. Makayla Ford drilled a shot from deep to pause the run, but Emory remained solid in all aspects, shooting 60% from the field while limiting Huntingdon to just 26% to snag the early advantage.
Second Quarter
Huntingdon struck first to get the second quarter underway, as KJ Jones, Dalyce Sanders, and Charity Shaw each contributed to an opening 6-2 run that cut the deficit to 33-17 by the 6:55 mark. After trading baskets and stops through the majority of the quarter, Emory restored their 20 point lead with a pair of free throws at the 2:11 mark, bringing the score to 43-22. Deshauna Foote cashed in on a jumper as the half came to a close, but the Hawks still faced a 49-24 deficit entering the break.
Third Quarter
Emory picked up right where they left off as the second half got underway, opening things with a 6-2 run to extend their lead to 57-26 approaching the six minute mark. Deshauna Foote stopped the run with an and-one layup finish at the 5:35 mark, but the Eagles continued to hit the mark, raising their lead to 74-43 entering the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Similar to the beginning of the third quarter, the Eagles kicked off the final quarter of play with a 7-0 run to further grow their lead. Charity Shaw came to life in the fourth quarter, scoring 7 of her 18 points in the contest while adding on 3 rebounds to guide Huntingdon's offensive attack through the final 10 minutes. Nonetheless, the Hawks ran out of time down the stretch, falling 102-55 to their nationally ranked opponent.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, December 13th as they travel to face Warren Wilson. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM CT.
