Hawks Can't Find Their Groove At LaGrange
Despite forcing five first-quarter turnovers, Huntingdon was unable to capitalize consistently on the offensive end, shooting just 3-of-18 in the opening period. LaGrange closed the quarter on a 6-1 spurt to take a 12-9 lead into the second.
Kennedi McCray opened the second quarter with a layup off a KJ Jones assist to cut the deficit to one, but the Panthers responded with an 8-2 run to stretch their lead. Huntingdon continued to fight on the glass, finishing the night with 19 offensive rebounds, but second-chance opportunities were difficult to convert against a LaGrange defense that totaled seven blocks.
McCray provided a spark midway through the second quarter with an and-one finish to bring the Hawks within four at 20-16. However, LaGrange closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 28-20 advantage into the break.
Out of halftime, the Panthers used a quick 9-1 surge – highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers, to push their lead into double figures as LaGrange extended its advantage to 52-31 by the end of the third quarter.
Makayla Ford led the Hawks with 14 points and five rebounds, while Crayton recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Deshauna Foote added nine points and two steals, going 7-of-10 from the free throw line, and Charity Shaw chipped in nine rebounds.
Huntingdon continued to compete in the fourth quarter, getting a layup from Erica Rodriguez and multiple trips to the free throw line from Foote, but the Panthers maintained control down the stretch, handing the Hawks the 19 point loss.
The Hawks will look to bounce back as they travel to face off with Maryville College. Gametime is set for 12:00 PM CT.
