Hawks Taken Down By Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Back on the road for a Collegiate Conference of the South matchup, Huntingdon Women's Basketball ran into a hot-shooting Maryville squad on Friday afternoon, falling 76-54 inside the Cooper Athletic Center.

Despite the final margin, the Hawks found early success through their interior presence. Charity Shaw turned in one of her most efficient performances of the season. The senior forward poured in 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting while adding six rebounds to lead all Huntingdon scorers.

Huntingdon (20-of-49, 40.8%) kept pace early behind Shaw's production and timely contributions from Abby Byrd, who added six points on a perfect 2-for-2 shooting effort off the bench. However, Maryville began to stretch the floor midway through the first half, knocking down seven three-pointers in the contest and converting at a 35 percent clip from beyond the arc.

Makayla Ford added 10 points for the Hawks, connecting on a three-pointer and going 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Kennedi McCray chipped in six points and six rebounds, while Deshauna Foote dished out a team-high five assists.

Turnovers proved costly for Huntingdon, as the Hawks were forced into 24 giveaways that led to extra opportunities for Maryville. The Scots also held a 38-30 edge on the glass, including 17 offensive rebounds that produced second-chance points.

Huntingdon continued to battle in the second half, earning trips to the free throw line and shooting 70.6 percent from the stripe, but was unable to close the gap as Maryville maintained control down the stretch.

The Hawks will look to bounce back on February 17th at Belhaven. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM CT.
